Scott Philbrick
First steady pro gigs at age 14 in Boston area night clubs. Played Boston hotels (where first met Bobby) and clubs including the infamous" Lenny's on the Pike ". Started a 30 year stint in TV production at age 19 on the "Dave Garroway Show" and appeared on air many times playing trumpet with the likes of Arthur Fiedler and B.B. King. Composed and performed scores for TV dramas and continued to perform "on air". Started playing guitar in high school but had a poor teacher (himself). Although the cornet was main focus, the guitar was a always there and found to be more "relaxing" then the horn. Gigs have taken him to: St. Bart's, The East and West Coasts, at least 20 states, Canada, and Bermuda. Jazz festivals include appearances at : The Great Connecticut, Hotsteamed Jazz, Down East, Sacramento, San Diego, New York, Bar Harbor, Boothe bay Harbor and 100's of concerts. List of victims: Doc Cheatham, "Big Chief" Russel Moore, Buzzy Drootin (one of Bobby's favorite drummers), Tommy Newsome, Bob Havens, Leon Redbone, Dave McKenna, Cy Laurie, B.B King, Vince Giordano, Jimmy Mazzy, Turk Murphy, Banu Gibson, Jerry Fuller, Ted Goddard, Spiegel Wilcox, Nevil Dickie, George Masso, Eddie Hubble, Bob Crosby Bobcats, Major Holley, Eddie Davis, Cynthia Sayer, Grey Sargent. On more than a dozen albums on both cornet and guitar. There's a four year chair at the Royal Academy of Music in his name for jazz trumpet of which he’s extremely proud. Nominated for "New England Jazz Musician of the Year" a few years ago. Had nice visit with Bobby about a week before he died.
A note from Nick DeCarlis: I first met Scott through a shared interest in collecting vintage cornets. To our mutual surprise we discovered that we also shared a virtually identical interest in jazz, including a great admiration for Bobby Hackett, who Scott had the good fortune to hear and meet many times. While Scott is a primarily a cornet player, he is a very accomplished rhythm guitarist as well, and has graciously agreed to take on that role for this concert.
